I often wish I had a small studio space. We just left Hudson and while we got lucky and sold our home…we didn’t find one first. That being said, we’re not totally set on one area, so opening a studio isn’t the best idea yet.

So I continue to travel.

Then I talk to new Moms and they say how much they love that I travel to them. That they don’t have to pack up a new baby. Diapers. Extra clothes. Whatever they may want in the session. Maybe other children. That they don’t have to worry about getting ready to go out (some like to get ready to be in the pictures, but often, they finish up while I’m working with baby already). That they get to feed baby in the comfort of their own home. Sometimes we sit and chat while baby is fed. Sometimes they go to their room or the nursery and have some quiet time while I take a moment to check out my email.

As much as I would love to have a studio. I’m never 100% sure I ever will. Part of what I do it to make sure my clients are comfortable and happy throughout the entire process of working with me. If that means going to their home, then that’s what I do. It also means part or all of your session can be completely tailored to you.

I can use your home. Your walls. Your furniture. Your blankets. The babies room. Mom and Dad’s room. The backyard. Whatever you want. And then your session becomes that much more about your story. Sure, I’ll bring my stuff too, but by traveling to my clients, they have the opportunity to tailor their session to tell as much about them as they want.

In the newborn session that follows, those are the wood floors and the walls in the home. Not backdrops. Not a studio. That’s their dog. Not a prop And we have pictures from their family room as well.

So maybe one day, I’ll have a studio to call my own. And maybe I won’t. If I ever do, I’m sure I’ll always travel. And no matter what, I’ll always strive to make your session tell you story.

Still Recapping 2012 | Northeast Ohio Family Photographer

I apologize now for the christmas in May post. As many of you know, keeping up with the blog is on my priorities list, just not very high. Keeping my turn around time in a good place and keeping up with my family fall much higher. Also, as some of you know, we moved over a month ago, so packing and then settling back down took quite a bit of time, so the blog fell pretty low on that list of priorities. But, I’m back!

And this is my recap of last November. Christmas pictures and all

I’m usually dead in November. So burnt out after a really busy fall, that I welcome a lull until after the holidays. However, this year, a longer bit of warm weather and some little ones, kept my busy right up until Thanksgiving. On top of getting holiday orders placed, it was quite a bit busier then normal.

I had mostly family photo sessions and one with an adorable 3 month old I’ve been photographing every 3 months since. I also did a quick snap of some photos of my daughter at the local yogurt shop in Hudson. Lulu’s Yogurt with a Twist. Cute place. Awesome yogurt. With the weather warming up (it is warming up, right?), I highly suggest you take a trip there. It’s just “Deeeeelicious” as my Isabella would say and her absolute favorite spot for a treat.

I also had a newborn session, but that’s saved for the next post. You all know how much I love babies. The adorable little ones require post of their own!

I tried to keep the list of pics short. But not too short.

Tiny Miracles | Cleveland Newborn Photographer

Late last summer, I was supposed to photography Shelly and Justin. Shelly was pregnant and the couple was eagerly awaiting their baby’s arrival. After talking to Shelly, I was really excited to photograph them on the east side, possibly around Shaker Lakes, a place I visited a lot growing up. I don’t get to the Heights too often these days, so I was really looking forward to it. Shelly and I chatted a bit about the session and I knew I was just going to love working with them.

Fast forward to the week of their session…Shelly calls me to let me know that their little one arrived. Very very early. Riley was in the NICU, but the fighter that she is, she was doing well, but still had a couple months before she would be able to come home.

A couple months later, I was beyond thrilled to finally meet Shelly, Justin and Riley. She was by far the tiniest little baby I have photographed, but she may also be the most feisty, lol. Through 5 hours of shooting, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Shelly and Justin. And I found a great friend in Shelly as we designed their album for Riley, full of not only my images, but her images of Riley’s first months in the NICU as well. It will forever be one of my favorite projects and I hope to work with them again soon.

Fall Senior Pictures | Northeast Ohio High School Senior Photography

Every once in a while, I get to change it up a little bit and photograph some older “kids”. This October, I had two.

The first, was a local spot in Aurora I had never been. In the background, you can see the old Geauga Lake. It was really a fun spot and holds a lot of memories for this Kent High School Senior and her family. We also had an awesome old mini-carosel to work with when we met at her Grandmother’s house. I love unique photo opps!

The second was at Squire’s Castle in Willoughby Hills. This Kirtland Senior, did great and shows just how versatile the castle can be. It’s definitely not just a place for girls, or couple or kids. The great architecture gave a diverse array of backdrops that evening.

Fall Maternity Session | Streetsboro Maternity Photography

This past fall, I photographed Celia, who was sent to me by her sister. She was very easy to work with during her maternity session and I was very pleased with all the images we ended with. The fall colors were extremely vivid and I loved the simplicity of her white shirt and colored scarf. Accessories can really add a a great pop to something simple and tie everything together. Soon, I’ll be posting pictures of her daughter’s newborn session. Porter was just an adorable little doll and was just perfect during our session. Eek! I just working with all these Mamma’s and their babies!

My Favorite Time of Year | Macedonia Family Photographer

My favorite time of year these days is Fall. It used to be summer. I loved swimming and didn’t mind the heat. But now, age (lol, I know I’m not that old, but boy do I feel it some days!) and motherhood and chasing kids (it’s much easier when it’s 60 or 70 degrees versus 90!) and photography (it’s SO pretty in the fall) have really lead me to just LOVE everything about fall. October also tends to be the busiest month of the year for me. I don’t mind mainly because I always know the session will be fantastic.

The session on today’s blog was everything you hope for when you plan out a session. Perfect weather. Every color fall can provide you. And perfect family to have fun with for an hour or so. I had a blast with Jen and her family and I’m so happy to say they are good friends of ours and was so glad she let me capture some moments for her family.

It was also my first session at Kendall Lake and now I can’t help but plan for trips back next fall. I want MY family pictures there. It was just perfect and I had so many different natural backdrops to work with. Photographers heaven no doubt.

Jen, maybe we can find a new fantastic place next fall that you and your family can break in for me. It was so much fun spending the evening with you guys!

Guardian Angel | Canton Newborn Session

This newborn session holds a very dear place in my heart. I was thrilled for Audrie and Jeremy that their little boy had finally arrived, but I was so saddened that at the same time, Audrie had to say good-bye to her Grandmother. I photographed Audrie and Jeremy, for her engagement session, so I already felt like I knew them well. I just loved their personalities and how easy they were to work with and I was very excited to be working with them again (and again and again!). When she asked for a couple special images to commemorate her Grandmother, I was happy to oblige. I’m glad that they were as happy as I was with the way the images turned out. I love the picture of Ethan with his guardian angel and I know they do as well.

I’m behind on blogging sessions that I’ve already photographed Ethan at 3 months (coming sooner than later!) and have his 6 month session on the calendar! He’s one of the smiliest boys you’ve ever met!

The Best of: October Mini Sessions | Northeast Ohio Family Photography

I’ve been debating how to break up October’s sessions. To blog all at once, even with just 2 from each session, would leave a blog post miles long. Nobody has the patience to load and view a million pictures at once…so this is what I came up with. My first post (this one!) will be all the mini sessions I did over the month. That means the day of mini’s I had at Szalay Farms and the 3 month session that is part of my 1 year baby plan…which also happened to be at Szalay’s. I’ll do a combined post for the high school seniors from October, my first trip to Indigo lake will get it’s own post so you can see why it’s a favorite fall spot and a beautiful backyard maternity session will all be separate. Each newborn will also get their own feature as well…because, who doesn’t LOVE pictures of newborn babies.

Best of: August & September | Hudson Newborn & Family Photographer

August and September gave me a few of my favorite session from the year. A without a doubt, so of the best light in those later evenings. As usually, September is a little slower before the month of October and everyone realizes that they want pictures outside before it gets cold. Which is actually good, as we have family birthdays about every other day! Here’s what kept me busy at the end of this summer and into the very beginning of fall…

I had a LARGE family session on the east side in Pepper Pike. The entire family was in town for a special celebration and the parents got their kids all together, with all the grandchildren, and we had a really perfect August evening. Not too hot, perfect sunlight.

The perfect light followed me into North Canton the following evening for one of the most gorgeous maternity sessions I have had to date. Audrie was glowing the entire time and picking just a few to share was incredibly tough. We worked until we had no more sun light to shoot in.

August 6 led me to Amherst, where I spent Megan & John’s one year anniversary photographing their brand new baby girl. It was a very special afternoon and Finely was just perfect. I picked my 3 very favorite images from her session, and I cannot wait to add them to my portfolio…hopefully soon.

I had the chance to photograph a couple local area seniors around downtown Hudson, the same place I did their sisters pictures just a few years ago. The golden tones of sunset were perfect again…and I almost cancelled the session as it happened to be pouring right down the street!

I made the trip out to one of my favorite spots, Squire’s Castle, to photograph my cousin’s little one. The bad thing about letting your cousin take pictures of your daughter…you don’t get them back for 6 months :/ I hope they were worth it! And I photograph little Bella who just turned one tomorrow, I can’t wait!

I started September with something new. I had the chance to photograph the 10th Anniversary Party of the fabulous Pickwick & Frolic in downtown Cleveland. It was such a fun evening, the owner and his daughter honestly couldn’t be much nicer and spotting a few local celebrities was fun. THough I think the best part might have been meeting the owner of the Candlelight Winery and dinner after with the owner Piece of Cake. Both of which helped to make a smashing success!

My last session of September, was a 6 month and family session at Munroe Falls Park. It was my first trip there, and what a gorgeous place for pictures and a fun place for the family! If you haven’t been, I highly suggest a visit, there’s a huge lake, playground and trails. So much to do with the kids!

So that’s a wrap for now. I hope to get October up soon…I’d like to start this year without getting to far behind!

Favorite New Product | Hudson Newborn & Family Photographer

I’ve offered layflat books for awhile now. However, not until last year did people really start to order them. While I was happy with the product I was offering, I didn’t LOVE it. So this fall I went on the hunt for the perfect book to document your session.

And I found it.

This layflat book has thrilled my last few clients, as well as myself. I wish everyone could document their sessions with one these. It’s absolutely stunning.

Every book is designed for the client with their session in mind, so no two layouts are the same (I do all the design work). There is also a slew of cover options. This just happens to be my favorite, and the favorite of my clients so far. There are other leathes and cloth options as well.

I just can’t say enough wonderful things about how much I love this book. I hope you’ll agree!
