I love what I do. Photographing families really makes me happy. Sure, it’s hard to leave the house sometimes and the business aspect is very difficult, but when I am photographing families, I am truly in a happy place. All other cares just fade away and I am present just in that moment.
I photograph newborns and families. I used to photograph weddings and sports. I use backdrops and posers and all sorts of stuff to fulfill the desires of my clients.
The parks with no props are favorite spots. There’s little cajoling of children to pose and smile and they are happy and that translates into beautiful photographs.
Sometimes I get a client that loves that idea and wants me in their home. No backdrops. No props. Just playtime for their kids. And me
And those are the best.
I’ve been photographing him for a few years now and he and his family are a ton of fun to be around. This type of session is called lifestyle. I literally just follow them around the house and photograph their life. Last time, Carson was popping popcorn for movie night before I left and the time before that he had a box “tent” his Mom made and he loved playing in it. Every time, he’s played hide and seek around the tree in his front yard.
Not only did I capture some great smiles for this family. I captured true memories. Some of Carson’s very favorite things. This time we played cars (yep, I totally raced a matchbox car with him), drove ATVs (the kid friendly kind…and I did not get on), he went on the swings and he showed me his Halloween costume. So glad he didn’t let me leave without trying it on. He’s one awesome Iron Man!
If you’re struggling with ideas and outfits and how will you ever get your kids to smile…remember it doesn’t have to be a huge production. What’s most important is that you capture memories. Moments that you want to remember forever. I’m more than honored to be the one to do that for you
